Umpiring

2022 Umpire TrainingSATURDAY, MARCH 5TH
(last updated 1/18/22)

Where and when?
On Saturday, March 5th, from 8:30am-1:00pm, we will hold an instructional clinic designed to provide basic umpire training. No prior experience is necessary. The on-field clinic will cover basic positioning, making calls, and proper signals.  Weather permitting, the clinic will be held at the Alameda Little League Fields, between Wood Middle School and the former Lum Elementary School.

Additionally, likely online but perhaps in-person, we will hold a rules seminar (time and date TBD).  All trainees – regardless of division - must attend the rules seminar, which will graciously be conducted by District 4 umpire training staff.

How do I register?

How does it work?
Separate on-field sessions will be held for each division.  Please attend according to the staggered schedule shown below for the Division(s) in which you intend to umpire.  If, for example, you wish to umpire in A, AA, and AAA/Majors, come for all sessions.

A Division: 8:30am check-in at the snack bar; instruction from 9:00am to 10:00am on Anderson Field

AA Division: 9:30am check-in at the snack bar; instruction from 10:00am to 11:00am on Kees Field

AAA & Majors Divisions: 10:30am check-in at the snack bar; instruction from 11:00am to 1:00pm on the minor field

Rules Seminar (all divisions together): date and time TBD

What next?
After you have completed the training, you will likely fall into one of two categories:

- Volunteering for a specific team (i.e. you are a coach, manager, parent, or older sibling): in this case, you are encouraged to contact your team’s manager and volunteer to help him/her cover umpire duties that will have already been assigned to the manager prior to the March 5th training

- "Free agent” (i.e. you may be a junior umpire, former league parent, community member at large, or a coach/manager/parent looking to umpire more): in this case, your contact information will be circulated to all major and minor division managers immediately after the March 5th training and they will contact you to help cover their umpire duties as needed.

If you have any questions, please contact Jim Quilici, Director of Umpires, at [email protected].  Please be sure to check back here periodically for any updates, especially if poor weather is forecast on March 5th!
